Marion Erskine chats to Riana Mouton
Why did you start writing? What was your inspiration?
Without a doubt Prof. Tom Gouws. We were in a restaurant one day and he asked me, out of the blue, why I didn’t try my hand at wielding a pen.

How does the geographic distance contribute to writing about South African issues?
I sometimes feel unbelievable isolated in New Zealand. I long intensely for my country, my people, the
essesnce of Africa. It is terribly frustrating to write in another country about something that’s happening
in South Africa. In my most recent manuscript I battled with the prices with food prices. It probably sounds
strange, but I’m completely out of touch with food process, property prices, the changes of town and place names.
